You're The Cat's Pajamas.

Hello Readers,

I want you all to know right now. I'm a crazy cat lady. I love cats. No, really I  LOVE cats. If I had the time in my hectic life, I would make very detailed flash cards of cat breeds, diseases, communication skills, and history. But I only have time to write this blog.

I'm basically going to give you the low down on cats. Myths, quizzes, statistics and even really cute pictures you really should have seen by now.

So lets get started with the myths:

  •  "Cats are so low maintenance pets!"                                                                                                 Buh-lo-ney. To a point some cats can be low maintenance, yes you don't have to take them on walks and let them outside to do their business. Feeding, grooming and litter box upkeep is a daily thing. Yes. Even the litter box. No cat likes to walk into that when they really need to go. Pets in general are expensive if you haven't noticed that lately. Last time I checked you have to feed them which requires $$. You have to buy litter which requires $$. You SHOULD send them to a vet once a year which requires $$$. On a year to year basis, that's around $800-$1000.  Mind you that is if you have a cat with little to no health problems. This really bothers me when my college friends think they should adopt a cute little kitty and think it will be all flowers and rainbows. Reality check, college kids are poor.
  • "I don't want to send Fluffy to a day care, lets just let them stay at home for the weekend, they'll be fine by them self."  Wrong. You better a get a sitter for your little fluffer nutter, or you may not find him alive when you return. Get that straight right now. They are not superheroes and cannot go without fresh food and water for that long. Geez, how would you feel if that happened to you?
  • BLACK CAT MYTHS
    • If farmers were having a bad crop season, in order to get rid of their bad luck, would have to shoot a black cat with a silver bullet
    • If an old women owned a black cat in a residential area her and her cat would be persecuted for practicing witchcraft and both of them would be burned at the stake.
    • Near Halloween black cats would be sacrificed in order to keep bad spirits out of town.
      • Nowadays, in some cities, black cats are not adopted out in the month of October just for the cats safety.

Want to get a cat of your very own? Here are some fun facts you should know about kitties:
  • Older cats can actually be better pets than kittens (all kitties need homes, but if your not ready for a big parent roll just yet) you should consider an older cat. You don't have to litter train them. Most older don't get adopted, just because they're old. Don't be age-ist towards the old kitties, they need love too
  • Adopt siblings or in pairs/groups. If there is a cute pair of cats that have grown up with each other at the local shelter, fact is they will be great together. They will eat together, sleep with each other, entertain each other.  I hate it when potential adoptive parents say "I can really only have one cat" to that I say: Go look at another cat if you can't get both. Pairs are great, especially if theyre young.
  • Long haired cats does not mean more cat hair in your coffee. Go Google it right now, you'll find out short haired cats shed more often.
  • Hairless cats does not mean "hypo allergenic."
  • If you're allergic to cats:
    • 1. get allergy shots
    • 2. suck it up
    • 3. you're allergic to their spit not their fur. DUH!
  • Squirt bottle training is UNACCEPTABLE. Try noise training. Instead of squirting everytime fluffy jumps on the counter, bang some pots and pans near by and quickly push fluffy off.
If you still don't know what kind of cat you should get try this quiz at Animal Plant's Website
                    QUIZ

To all of you lovely people who think they don't need to take care of your pets properly i.e. spay/neuter, shots. All of these facts are for those owners who give up their pets for petty reasons. I feel very strongly about animal rights, as we all should. Animals are the most forgiving beings on this planet and they love us so. So why not return the favor.
  • It is impossible to determine how many stray dogs and cats live in the United States; estimates for cats alone range up to 70 million.
  • The cost of spaying or neutering a pet is less than the cost of raising puppies or kittens for a year.
  • Five out of ten dogs in shelters and seven out of ten cats in shelters are destroyed simply because there is no one to adopt them.
  • Approximately 5 million to 7 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide every year, and approximately 3 million to 4 million are euthanized.

Ever wonder why you should get a cat? Check this picture out.

So I bet you've learned by now how much I really love cats. I hope you all have a lovely week and weekend. I sure will. Finally, I think I will leave you all with some really cute pictures.
